Vic: Ansett to face strike action
Ansett Airlines will be forced to reschedule flights across Australia today as staff
are set to proceed with strike action.
Talks between Ansett Australia and the Australian Services Union broke up yesterday
without resolution at the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
The union says reservation staff will stop work for two hours from 9am (AEDT), check-in
staff will down tools for up to three hours from 4pm (AEDT) and freight workers will strike
for up to 24 hours.
Industrial action will hit Ansett operations in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane,
Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Alice Springs, Cairns and Townsville.
Ansett spokesman PETER YOUNG says flights may need to be rescheduled but there will
be no cancellations.
Union assistant national secretary LINDA WHITE says they've been trying to negotiate
a new enterprise bargaining agreement since last June, but have been unable to make any
progress.
